Forest Friends Project Bag

 Wow!  Do I have something gorgeous for you to feast your eyes on.  As if the yarn wasn't enough, right?  I now have pictures of the completed project bag, and let me tell you, I can't wait to get my hands on mine!  Silvia from Not Knots outdid herself this year!  Talk about "fairest of them all!"

The exterior fabric features deer, owls, foxes and bunnies, set amongst lush forest greenery.

The bag features a webbed wrist handle, which is perfect for hanging off your wrist while you knit or crochet in line for your favorite Disney theme park rides.  It also has a beaded, color coordinating parachute cord drawstring with a locking toggle so when you finally get on that favorite ride, your project won't escape as you are either turned upside down, plummeting down a waterfall, or floating weightless out of your seat.

When I said this bag is full of amazing features I wasn't lying!  It sports a square base allowing the bag to sit upright for those time you want to just sit, knit and soak up the atmosphere.  And just check out the themed contrasting lining fabric!

These pockets are just the cutest thing I've ever seen!  There are 3 pockets in all, including the 1-inch needle niche!  This project bag has it all!

 Just a quicky post for all you who might be on the fence about the yarn, and wanted to see what both colorways look like swatched up.  Your wait is now over.  First up:  "Vanity" from Dizzy Blonde Studios.

This knitted swatch was done on size 3 needles; 40 stitches with a 3 stitch garter tab on each side.

This crocheted swatch was done on a size "E" hook; chained 40 for a 39-stitch row.  Top 7 and bottom 7 rows are single crochet.  The center part is double crochet, and I find THAT part the most interesting.

Yes, Silvia from Not Knots has returned and will be crafting this year's project bag.  Currently she is just teasing out the fabrics she will be using, but will furnish pictures of the completed bag soon.  The bag is inspired by Snow White's flight through the woods, and the friends that she made there.  I mean, who wouldn't be inspired by anyone who helped you clean house, or those who mine gems all day?

The "Forest Friends" project bag is meticulously constructed out of coordinating, themed fabrics and features a beaded drawstring with a locking toggle, interior pockets and a square base so that the bag doesn't fall over while in use.

Magic Mirror will tell you true...

 

...who is in greater need of yarn than you?  (pssst....the answer is "no one")

Our first gorgeous colorway was inspired by Snow White's narrative instrument: the Wishing Well.  It wields a rather organic magic...the magic of hope, and all the wonderful things that occur because of hope.

For the inspiration for our second colorway, Dizzy Blonde Studios also turned to an instrument of magic: the Magic Mirror.  The Evil Queen's actions are driven by a need for admiration, a grandiose sense of self, and a ruthless pursuit of power and beauty, and turns to the mirror for validation.  Ironic that it's this very instrument which becomes her undoing.

From the Dyer:

"I could go on and on about how the first time I saw "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", I was a little girl and watching it on TV, and remembering how kind and gentle Snow White was.  Or wax poetic about how it was the Evil Queen that caught my attention, and her magic mirror and not her crone form that scared the willies out of me. I mean, it was creepy....all smoky and misty and then a great big face that only spoke the truth?  Makes me shudder just thinking about it.  

But no, I won't bore you with an in-depth psycho-analysis of the Evil Queen's narcissism, or that her instrument of validation was the very thing that wounded her vanity in the end.

We're wishing....

The inspiration in our first colorway was found in the opening scene of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" where we find Snow White, dressed in rags in the courtyard of the Evil Queen's castle at the wishing well, here she wishes for the one she'll love to find her.  She explains to the woodland creatures who have gathered around her, the lore of the wishing well, that if the words are echoed by the well, the wish will come true, thus establishing the significance of the well in Snow White's young life.

Our first colorway comes from Lazer Sheep Yarns, and it certainly doesn't disappoint!

"Since we're going back to the first ever, full length, animated film, I decided to go to the very start of that movie for my inspiration. I also feel like we could use some wishes coming true these days. I combined some stone greys, with pops of purple flowers and green leaves, to convey the calm hopefulness of Snow White's wishing well."     ~~Leslie Valantine
